Susan Scanlan Morgan of Vadnais Heights passed away on October 19, 2026 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul from a five year illness. Susan was born to her parents, Earl and Phylis Crowder of Jefferson, Iowa on June 19, 1952. She attended school at Grand Junction, Iowa and Dayton, Iowa and graduated high school in Luverne, MN in 1970.
She was united in marriage to Dr. Wayne Scanlan and worked in their veterinary hospital in White Bear Lake until their divorce. For the next several years she was a full time mom caring for their son, Tyler. As Tyler got older she considered going back to school but had qualms about her age by graduation time. Her mother reassured her that she would be the same age if she didn't go back to school. She graduated Magna Cum LAude with a registered nursing degree. She then worked for a period of time at the University of Minnesota in the dermatology department.
One of her special memories was of her European vacation with Tyler after he graduated from St. Cloud University.
Susan had a great love and respect for nature and the out-of-doors. Long walks and kayaking were two of her favorites. She loved all creatures- dogs, cats, birds, reptiles - basically anything that walked, crawled, or swam and had a vast knowledge about them all. Any that showed up at her door were definitely assured of a lifetime home of love, care, and devotion.
Susan met her partner, Ward Morgan (same last name by coincidence) 14 years ago and have been together ever since. Recently, with great difficulty, Ward arranged for them to go to a concert that Susan badly wanted to attend. We thank Ward for all his love, care, time, and effort in taking care of Susan these last five years.
Susan was preceded in death by her father. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by Ward of Vadnais Heights, her mother Phylis Crowder of Rush City, her two sisters JeriAnn Rowe (Bryan Mueller) of Rush City and Angela Binns (Herb) of Buena Vista, CO, Ward's sister Linda, and all of Sue's beloved pets.
